Why buy new furniture made of particle board when you can get real, solid-wood furniture for less? This piece is over 50 years old and has stood the test of time - a real classic. It has just been refinished in the original color with additional clear-coat on top and is basically in perfect condition. I worked in the service department of a major furniture chain for years (repairing and touching up new furniture), and always shook my head in disbelief at why anyone would buy new (but poorly built) furniture at such a marked-up price, when they could buy higher quality, second-hand pieces for a fraction of the cost!
Bassett Furniture was established in 1902 in Virginia. Their furnishings were made from real wood harvested from trees of the Appalachians. Old Bassett advertisements boast that each of their pieces were meticulously detailed and finished by hand, the old-fashioned way. This piece was made in the 1960s.
