with a brass ball on the handle, this rare fork is marked “A” “International Pitch” that was established in 1939 for the 440-hertz concert frequency. One hertz is the same as one cycle per second. It is 5″ long, in good condition with no chips, dents or modifications.

C-pitch steel tuning fork
made in Germany. Marked “C” international pitch and “Germany”, it is 4¾″ long. The polished steel is in good condition with no chips, dents or modifications to affect the tuning sound.
My great-grandmother was a country doctor and may have used a tuning fork like these to detect bone fractures. The tuning fork will produce a sharp pain if there is a fracture in the bone.
